Most Reverend Thomas G. Wenski - Archbishop of Miami

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

As we continue to deal with a worldwide pandemic and the greatest economic crisis since the Great Depression, we need more than ever that peace that was Jesus’ Easter gift to his disciples—a peace that comes from experiencing his mercy. God’s mercy opens our horizons and gives us true freedom. It provides us with a future—a future made possible because God’s grace is more powerful than our disgrace. Jesus in suffering, dying and rising again broke the chains of death and in doing so opened the doors to hope. Jesus is the human face of God and the divine face of Man, in Him is our hope.

We too are called to witness to that hope. We do this by loving as Jesus himself has loved us. Jesus gives us his Holy Spirit who teaches us a new language. It is the language of love.

Now is the time for mercy. If love is the language that the Christian speaks, the language that defeats the Babel of confusion, conflict and suspicion, that language also has a grammar. To speak a language well, to be understood and to understand a language, you need to master the grammar. People can speak ungrammatically but they’re not always well understood; misunderstandings occur, etc. Love has a grammar and the grammar of love is mercy.
Now is the time of mercy, to learn the grammar of love through the corporal and spiritual works of mercy, to learn the grammar of love by forgiving and offering forgiveness. Mercy makes hope possible.

It is my hope that you are able to continue your weekly offertory support through the use of online giving on your parish website or through this Universal Online Offertory Page. These funds are critical for the continued operation and ministerial work of your parish. I understand that many of you may not be able to contribute given the economic impact this pandemic is having on you and your family; however, for those who are able to do so, please do. Your parish is depending on you.

Many are suffering financially due to this pandemic. In times of need, people turn to the Church for help, and if we come together, we can try to assist those in need. If you are able to make a donation to the Coronavirus Emergency Fund, please consider doing so now. As Sister Faustina, the Apostle of Divine Mercy, insisted, “Now is the time for mercy.”
It is my hope that you continue to visit our website, www.miamiarch.org, for up-to-date information, live-streaming of liturgies, and other resources.

You and your families are in my prayers. God bless you.

Sincerely yours in Christ,

Most Reverend Thomas G. Wenski
